In Bosch's development parking garage in Ludwigsburg, electric cars not only search for a parking space on their own, but are also charged automatically beforehand.
Parking without searching for a parking space, charging without waiting at charging stations: Bosch is currently testing this together with Volkswagen subsidiary Cariad. The infrastructure automatically guides the vehicle to a parking space with charging facilities. There, a robot opens the charging flap, automatically plugs in the charging cable and unplugs it again as soon as the vehicle battery is fully charged. The car then drives back to a parking space without charging facilities without a driver and makes room for the next e-vehicle with a low battery level.
According to the companies, this should make it possible to charge and park several vehicles without human interaction. This will increase the efficiency of the charging infrastructure, optimize the use of charging stations and reduce annoying waiting times for customers at the charging station. "Being able to charge electric vehicles easily reduces range anxiety and is a prerequisite for broad acceptance of electromobility. With this in mind, Bosch and Cariad can make parking and charging even more efficient and convenient," says Manuel Maier, Vice President Product Area Cross Domain Parking Level 4 at Bosch.
The company has already been offering "Automated Valet Parking", in which cars search for a parking space without a driver, to end customers in the P6 multi-storey parking lot at Stuttgart Airport for around a year and has started to equip other multi-storey parking lots across Germany with the infrastructure technology. The new "Automated Valet Charging" technology is based on the underlying technology.
