That was CoFAT 2019!

On May 7 and 8, numerous experts met again on the topic of Future Automotive Technology at the Veranstaltungsforum Fürstenfeldbruck.

The core question for our speakers was: Will approaches to mobility and vehicle concepts of the future emerge evolutionarily from existing technologies or will disruptive technologies and business models displace existing ones?

For the 7th time, more than 300 developers, scientists, experts and business people met in May 2018 for the Conference on Future Automotive Technology. Prof. Markus Lienkamp from the Technical University of Munich made it clear that high volumes in electromobility are foreseeable. He appealed to German manufacturers not to let the technology in battery and cell production be taken out of their hands. Hybrid and range extender are no longer options, according to Dr. Rainer Sessner, CEO of Bayern Innovativ GmbH: "Electromobility is an intermediate stage to new mobility concepts. The view of a supplier in series production on the changes in the automotive industry was outlined by Prof. Peter Gutzmer, Chief Technology Officer at the Schaeffler Group. Here, the company does not believe that electric vehicles will be the only, safe mobility option in the future. Instead, there will be a variety of drive types. Dr. Joachim Damasky, Managing Director at the VDA, believes the German automotive industry is on the right track - growth rates in Germany are exceptionally high. In an exciting discussion on the topic of mobility of the future, Minister of State (ret.) Erwin Huber, Prof. Georg Wachtmeister and Prof. Markus Lienkamp exchanged numerous arguments on the potential of internal combustion engines with, among other things, artificial fuels in a mix with purely electric drives. The need for accompanying measures by policymakers became clear; a current example is the expansion of the charging infrastructure. Finally, the managing director of the BMZ, Sven Bauer with the industrial consortium TERRAE, gave a glimpse of possible good prospects for the topic of cell production in Germany.
